Picture of my True Self

One Shot Movie

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ASD8KjKZtdU

This is the link to our final video, and personally I thought this turned out a lot better than I expected. Everything worked out really well and we got the right people to do the right things and it looks really good through out the whole entire film. The theme was Narcissus and we had the people do things everything backwards so when we would reverse the film it would look like the person walking backwards, was walking forward. I thought this was a very unique way to film and it ended up working really well and looks really cool.

The group as a whole worked really well together. We all met multiple times and were very productive at all meetings. We worked with everyones crazy schedule and finally got a time when we could film and run through what our process was. We all did something, which was cool to see how it all came together. I would have to say this was my favorite group project out of the two we did because of the teamwork and cooperation we all had.

Mask

This is the picture of my mask. The Reason why I took this picture is because it portrays how people are putting on masks and people struggle to be themselves and this is saying that we need to leave our masks behind and continue to live out as ourselves and be comfortable in our own skin. This demonstrates festivals of renewal and how we when we take off our mask it is our own new-self. This also shows theater and how people try to put on an act to make people like them and we need to learn how to not put on an act, take off the mask and be ourselves.

The mask covers up our true self and we need to learn how to get rid of our ideal self and just be our true self. If we all take off our masks and be ourselves there would be a lot less drama I would think and people would not judge other people not nearly as much as they do now. If we do not take it off it will distort who we really are deep down.

I think that if we can take off the mask we can truly express ourselves the right way then. In my picture I was trying to make it so it looked like I was looking back at the mask that I put on to express my self, and when looking back I am determining whether or not to keep it or get rid of it. We can express our true selves if we just forget about it.

The dialogue between our true self and false self has a lot of tension on both ends. It is hard to believe that we are unable to express our own self because we are so caught up with things that define us that are around us. We are afraid to show our true self.

Portraits

When taking the portraits of my self, I was pretty sure with what I wanted to come out of the pictures. I had a good idea of what I wanted my ideal picture to be like and what I wanted my real picture to look like. I think when I first started to understand the concept of real and ideal it helped me interpret pictures and gave me a better idea of how I wanted my pictures to turn out. I think that these portraits do not really show the true "me", I think the real me lies in between my real and ideal self.

Earthwork

The Earthwork picture was a lot harder because of the group aspect because there would be mixed feelings about many things but when it finally came together it worked out and went well. This picture that we took was one of our favorites and it involves the use of a mirror and how it reflects the sky into the palm of your hand. The way we split up the work was some people brought materials to use for when taking pictures such as mirrors, water, tinfoil, and more. We all sort of thought out of each picture together and made them unique in a way to satisfy everyone in the groups need. We all pitched in for something and it ended up working well.

Historical Landscape

I chose this historical picture of landscape because it has a lot of the same features of my picture of landscape. The coast has a curve along with the mountains in the back ground. Even though this may be a painting they both capture the moment along the coast of somewhere beautiful. Also it shows how much pictures are similar even though they are many years apart in age.

Landscape picture

My Landscape shot was taken over spring break on the beach in the Domincan Republic. It was taken when the sun was going down. The Mountains in the background look really cool with the ocean to the right. This is one of my favorite pictures. The color of this picture has a little darkness but just the right amount. The Coast line shows the use of lines and how it almost looks like it could continue to wrap around the whole island.

My Image of God

My Image of God was taken when I was in the Dominican Republic over spring break. I was on a mission trip and we were trying to help people and preach the good news about our God. This picture captures one of my friends playing with kids and showing them love by holding them and interacting with them. This relates to Jesus and us and how he came to the world to show us his awesome love and we were in so much awe because of it. This resembles Jesus in many ways because we went to the Domincan Republic to show and talk about what living life is all about and that is what Jesus did as well.

Midterm Slideshow

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xeDie1Gapu4&feature=youtu.be

My slideshow demonstrates my ability to take quality photographs as well as intertwining media images to make a unique story to go along with my slideshow. My slideshow has many different types of pictures including multiple edits that demonstrate my knowledge on what works for my pictures and what does not look good for my images. I would s ay that my slideshow gives great examples of what it is like to explore and not being afraid of getting lost.

There are many things that I believe that work well for my slideshow. Somethings could maybe be changed in a slight way but overall that is what makes it most unique. I think the combination of having both black and white, and color photographs make it seem like a neutral feel because of the differences. I think that it flows well with my media pictures because it sort of tells a story in a way and how we need to explore and take more risks. I would also say that my slideshow has good rhythm and the continuity is on point.

Somethings I could probably work on when it comes to my photography is that I need to remember the rule of thirds and also to center things if it works well. Also I think I can improve my editing skills and be willing to take more risks when it comes to editing and making a picture special. I think that I could do a better of analyzing each picture and making sure that the order works in which I put them in.

I think the media quotes really fit in to my slideshow well. When I first heard we were going to explore and "get lost" my first thought was an advertisement from North face that says "never stop exploring". I think this works because it is at the end of my slideshow and throughout my show it is like were exploring through the pictures and moving along a path. That is why I put a scene from the patriot in it. Not only does it look like you can put them in my pictures but they are also exploring and potentially lost in the image I took. I don't think my images bother my imagination because I can picture those things when I made the slideshow so I think that they fit well. Over all it has a nice flow to it.

freckled unclothed male torso. Huge traps and lats. seemingly taken in a locker room. arms outstretched as if to catch the light that falls onto shoulders. black and white. dramatic shadows. This body is clearly well trained and disciplined. Very solid and stationary. Reminds me of a marble sculpture from the Renaissance. I am curious who this is and why he agreed to pose. Why is his head cropped out of the picture?
lines: interesting negative space above and below the arms. The angle that the picture was taken at draws my eye down. Locker room doors are a bit distracting because they are asymmetrical, which could be remedied by straightening the photo. The line down the midline of his back echoes the locker doors which works nicely.
shadows: the rage of shadows is fascinating and beautiful and capture the roundness of the muscles (under the arms and shoulders down to the waste and hips).
Composition: Arms outstretched reminds me of Christ on the cross but again may need straightening and I would be curious to see it in color. The position seems dominant and somehow also quiet. This picture looks like the humility of a hard worker and simultaneously the arrogance of every human being (wide open for interpretation).

These two statues were found at the bottom of the Mediterranean Sea after being lost for centuries. Their hard, exaggerated physique preserves classical Greek idealism. How do their bodies compare to the body above? Poseidon's outstretched arms above are poised for action. How is his stance different from the picture above? Why is he frozen forever in motion?
And what of the athlete below? "Diskobolos" also comes from Classical Greece. How do the ideas and standards of manhood then ring true of manhood now? What is the use of a manly athletic build? What is it's purpose?

This image is from the renaissance time period not only because of the gothic look to it but from the artist who created it. Gothis art is exclusively religious art. This kind of art became very popular in the 14th century in Rome when the Church was gaining a lot of power and these art works inspired the public as well as secular leaders. These gothic images show the foundations of art and religion. It displays ggood connection between the two categories. It was not just gothic paintings that were most popula. There were gothic sculptors that were also very popular.

The reason why I chose this image is because of the history that is behind it. Some may say that it is just your typical picture of Jesus on the cross but to me it seems like it means more than that. It portrays his royalty and his power and shows what the power of the cross means and how he died for us and how he paid the ultimate sacrifice.

The second image I selected is when the woman reaches out and touches Jesus because she wants to get healed and Jeus called her out on it and loved her because of her faith. I chose this image because I have never seen any image of this before and I think that it is a good reminded for us to take a lead of faith and take risk because of God.
